The Specialised State Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Slovenia was established by the State Prosecutor's Office Act in 2011. The Specialised State Prosecutor's Office developed from the former Group of State Prosecutors for the Prosecution of Organised Crime. The group was organised within fhe framework of the Office of the State Prosedutor General of the Republic of Slovenia as a special organisational unit with jurisdiction over the entire territory of the state.
Eleven district state prosecutors' offices perform the duties of the first instance authority. Local state prosecutors, district state prosecutors and senior state prosecutors are assigned to district state prosecutors' offices. Their area of operation covers eleven district courts. State prosecutors from these district prosecutors' offices also appear before local courts in their territory.
Some district prosecutors' offices have external sections as organisational units.
